Plant-Based Diets webinar

Working as an oncology dietitian is incredibly rewarding. I meet amazing people on a daily basis and get to talk about managing symptoms from treatment, ways to maximize intake when they might not be feeling well, and how to navigate nutrition with everything else. I also get to work with survivors that have been cancer free for years and are looking for ways to maximize their health. It’s challenging and rewarding, and every day is something new and different.

A few weeks ago as part of a week of Survivorship celebrations, I gave a webinar on Plant-Based diets. Plant-based eating is one of the biggest recommendations for promoting health, but it’s not always clear what it means to eat plant-based. Here’s the recording of my presentation where I dive into, what plant-based diets are, why they’re beneficial, and most importantly, how to get started.

  1. Great presentation. I recommend Dave’s Killer Bread, 21 whole grain variety – no white or chemically enhanced grains, and 5 or 6 grams of protein in each piece. For those of us on chemo, specifically Xeloda for me, means that my body struggles to make use of and retain protein. According to what my oncologist tells me, and data from Mayo Clinic or ACI, how much protein each of us needs is based on BMI, so though I’ve lost a ton of weight I need to consume 70+ grams of protein per day. It takes commitment to eat well.

    1. Thanks, Sandra! I’ve heard good things about Dave’s Killer Bread, I’ll have to give it a try. Eating well is definitely a commitment, and even harder when going through treatment. Hope you’re hanging in there.
