CSA week 1 (A Seat at the Table)

Today is a very exciting day for me!  I got my first CSA box!  I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this CSA box all week, it’s been like the countdown to Christmas.  I’ve been interested in doing a Community Supported Agriculture share for several years, but it never seemed like a good time and I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to use all of the ingredients in a timely manner.  But this year as a challenge for my blogging, I decided to go for it.  We got a share from Karl’s Farm, a small family-run farm in Maryland.  I found it by doing a google search for CSA’s in my county.  Karl’s is one of the only CSA’s I could find that would deliver!  That sealed the deal for my family.  Usually you have a weekly pick-up time and location, which wouldn’t have been hard but would have been one more added step.  So this year we chose the convenience of delivery.

So I’m sure you’re all dying to know what we got!  Well here it is, and you’ll be sure to see posts in the future with how I end up using all of the surprise ingredients (it’s like Chopped but without the bizarre ingredients and with a whole week to figure out what to do with it)!CSA week 1 (A Seat at the Table)

  1. Looks like a fresh and delicious combo of garden stuff! I think you can make a tea from Lemon Balm, too. Yesterday I made your Quinoa Salad. I gave Kathy a sample. We had it for lunch (again today) with salmon, which was delicious.

  2. That looks delicious and obviously is quite fresh! I am excited to see what you come up with each week. Any ideas what you’ll do with this mysterious lemon balm?

  3. Ah, lemon balm. A lovely herb that June is correct can be made into a tea, but it is also used as a flavor in sweet things, and can be used in salad dressings and such. I don’t have the energy to look at any recommendations from my recipes, but I know you’ll figure out something wonderful.

  4. I wish I lived closer to taste some , too! Sounds so lovely the whole idea. I will be eating those kinds of fresh goodies in Finland this summer.
